Edwin William Baack, 86, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, in Oregon City, Oregon.

Born on December 15, 1938, in Lawton, Iowa, Edwin was the son of William George Baack and Anna Marie (Pedersen) Baack. He grew up in Iowa and graduated from LeMars High School in LeMars, Iowa. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, laying the foundation for a life marked by a career working for the United States Forest Service.

From 1956 to 1959, Edwin served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. His time in the military was a formative chapter in his life, reflecting his sense of duty and commitment to his country.

In 1959, Edwin married JoEllen, beginning a marriage that would span 66 years. Together, they built a life filled with family, shared experiences, and enduring love. Edwin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, JoEllen Baack; their children, Steven Baack, Sheila Baack, and Stuart (Kim) Baack; and grandchildren Bryan Baack, Alexis (Frank) Giannone, and Stirling Baack. He also leaves behind great-granddaughters Ivy and Piper Giannone. Jeanette Lowry, the mother of Bryan and Alexis, remains a part of the extended family.

Edwin is also survived by his brothers, Gary (Sharon) Baack and Roland Baack, and his sister-in-law, Dianne Baack, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Baack; his brother, Melvin Arnold Baack, husband of Dianne; his sister-in-law, Joyce Ellen Baack, wife of Roland; and a long-time family friend, Darryl K. Tubbs.

Edwin had a passion for motorcycle riding and a fondness for old western television shows, which brought him joy and relaxation. Known for his unique habit of eating dessert first at mealtime, he brought a touch of humor and individuality to everyday life.
