Edythe May Brownfield, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, in Wenatchee, Washington, after a final visit with her cherished family.

Born on May 29, 1942, in Bremerton, Washington, Edythe was the only child of Marion E. McKellips and Lois M. Bowen. She grew up in Seattle and graduated from Roosevelt High School, laying the foundation for a life marked by warmth, connection, and a deep commitment to her family, friends and community.

On September 22, 1962, Edythe married John H. Brownfield. In 1969, they moved to Chelan, Washington, where they owned and operated the family apple orchard. While raising their three children, Edythe was a cornerstone of the family businesses, serving as the bookkeeper for the orchard, the Music Store, and the Manson Farm Store. Her industrious spirit led her to many roles throughout her life, from planting trees for the Chelan Forest Service to working as a sales clerk at Sears and Roebuck in Chelan. Later in life, she also held several secretarial positions and enjoyed working in a local clothing boutique.

Beyond her family life, Edythe found fulfillment in giving back to her community. She was actively involved with Lake Chelan Hospital Guild Y and the Hospital Foundation—organizations that reflected her commitment to service, compassion for others and her generous spirit.

Edythe embraced life, her family and friends and held many passions. She was an avid traveler who especially loved Hawaii and enjoyed collecting memorabilia along the way. She also found joy in reading, engaging in friendly games of bridge, gathering with her Guild friends, and enthusiastically cheering on the Seahawks, always surrounded by loved ones. Living on the golf course, she kept her home open to visitors, often providing a signature "Fireball shot" to family or friends who stopped by, a gesture that perfectly encapsulated her fun-loving hospitality.

Edythe was the quintessential life of the party. With a sharp wit and an infectious laugh, she had a rare gift for lighting up any room she entered. She poured her love, support and humor onto her family, friends, and neighbors, whom she all adored. As the heart of the family, she always knew everything that was happening in the lives of her loved ones—even when the rest of the family hadn't quite caught up yet. Edythe connected easily with others and weaved her sense of humor into every conversation. Family gatherings were centered around this matriarch, and her love and laughter were abundant.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: son, Michael Brownfield, and twin daughters, Julie Mayhew and Joey Ellingson. Her legacy lives on through them, her nine grandchildren, and her five great-grandchildren. May her beautiful memory bring comfort to all of those who knew and loved her.
