Elaine M. Lotito Dalton

1938 - 2026

Elaine Mary Lotito Dalton, 87, died in hospice care at home on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Kissimmee, FL, while her daughter, Nancy, held her hand.

Elaine was born on July 3, 1938, in Manhattan, NY. She spent her childhood in a modest, inherited apartment in the heart of the city, a place that remains in the family to this day. In her early twenties, she married and raised three children in Manalapan, NJ, in a home on a beautiful plot of land with various kinds of animals. Elaine dedicated her life to creating a home filled with love, warmth, and generosity. She had a gift for lighting up a room and a passion for being the best wife and mother she could for her family.

After her children went off to pursue higher education, Elaine decided to settle down and lead a simple life in Florida, where her care for others followed. She became an avid supporter of initiatives like the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Elaine will not only be remembered for her selflessness, but also for her zaniness, strength, and refreshing attitude. Throughout her life, she possessed an independent and adventurous spirit, traveling to multiple countries and seizing any opportunity she had to see the world, sometimes setting out on journeys of her own. That same independence defined her character at home and in her relationships—she spoke her mind with steadfast candor, always out of love, and with the inner New Yorker in her.

Her vibrant outlook on life was reflected in many simple pleasures, including her morning dark roast coffee with cream, an unwavering fascination with the 1930s cartoon character Betty Boop, burgundy and fuchsia nail polish, and in recent years, true crime television.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Sadie Ann (Hurney) Lotito and John Joseph Lotito, and by her brothers, John Joseph Lotito Jr. and William "Billy" Lotito. She is survived by her loving children, Nancy Dalton 62, of Kissimmee FL; Michael Dalton 58 of Boca Raton, FL, and his children, Cole 24 and Delaney 21; and Kevin Dalton 56 of Red Bank, NJ, and his children, Kevin Jr. 23 and Lexi 21. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Nancy Lotito Strauss.

Elaine will be remembered by those who knew her for her nurturing nature, her honesty, and her down-to-earth demeanor. The presence and comfort Elaine brought to this world will be greatly missed by her family and those who had the privilege to know her.

Per Elaine's request, there will be no service. The family kindly asks that no sympathy gifts be sent. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the aspca.org to continue the betterment of animals in need in Elaine's honor.
