Elaine Kay Mills, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home in Chula Vista, California, on January 3, 2026, at the age of 87.

Elaine was born on September 15, 1938, in San Diego, California, and spent nearly her entire life in Chula Vista. She graduated from Chula Vista Junior High and Chula Vista High School, forming friendships that she cherished and maintained throughout her life.

After graduation, Elaine began her long and dedicated career at Rohr Industries, where she worked for 40 years, where she eventually retired from the legal department. She was involved in the National Managers Association, serving as president and traveling with the organization. She also enjoyed participating in a running club through her workplace, embracing both community and activity.

Elaine treasured her family and the friendships she built—many lasting from her school years and her decades at Rohr. She loved spending time with her family and had a special gift for making holidays magical. Her home was always filled with festive décor, warmth, and the joy she created for those she loved. A marvelous cook, she delighted in preparing meals, shopping, traveling, and crafting. Her creativity and enthusiasm made every gathering feel special.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Mills, and her son, Randy Mills; her grandchildren, Michael Mills and Natalie Mills; and her brother, Gilbert Spaulding Jr. and wife Ruth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Spaulding Sr. and Alda Spaulding; her sister and brother in law, Ellen "Red" Long and Ronnie Long; and her daughter in law, Esperanza Contreras Mills.

Elaine's strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends will never be forgotten. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, loyalty, and joy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Glen Abbey's Little Chapel of the Roses in Bonita. A viewing will take place on February 1, 2026, from 5:00-9:00 PM, also at Glen Abbey Magnolia Room.
