Elaine (née O’Halloran) Salvato passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 94. She died peacefully with her husband of 73 years, Anthony Salvato, by her side, surrounded by loved ones.

Elaine was born in 1931 in Charlestown, Massachusetts, to Eleanor and Michael O’Halloran. She was raised primarily by her maternal grandmother, Mary Flynn, who was caring for her own children as well as Elaine and her younger sister, Ellen. Elaine left school at a young age to help support the family, a responsibility she accepted quietly and without complaint.

Her life’s work was centered in the home, where she raised six children. Drawing on her early life experiences, Elaine was deeply committed to creating stability, fairness, and opportunity for her family. She focused on education, participation in sports and extracurricular activities, and above all, on keeping her family together. Her influence was felt in countless ways, large and small, and her children grew up knowing they were supported, protected, and believed in.
Later in life, Elaine worked for many years with a small, woman-owned and women-run catering company in the Boston area, serving large corporate clients such as Raytheon. She took pride in the work and enjoyed the camaraderie of the other women, many of whom, like her, had spent years as homemakers. It was never lost on the family that she began this chapter just as her husband entered retirement, a coincidence that made us all smile.

Elaine was not demonstrative by nature, but she was fiercely proud of the family and home she built. She had a strong sense of fairness, a quiet wisdom, and an instinctive kindness rooted in treating others as she wished to be treated. She was a careful listener, quick-witted, and able to find humor even in difficult moments. She was always willing to say yes, whether that meant trips to the zoo, hopping on a plane to visit family across the country, or showing up when someone needed her.

Though she did not have extensive formal education, she was deeply perceptive. During a daughter-in-law’s battle with advanced cancer, she accompanied family members to appointments and surprised clinicians with thoughtful questions no one else thought to ask. She was generous in small, meaningful ways, often slipping a piece of jewelry or a few dollars into a grandchild’s hand. She loved music, laughing, and marking life’s moments with enthusiasm, often punctuated by her signature “Hip, hip, hooray,” a phrase she and Anthony even signed into greeting cards as “HHH.”

She delighted in watching her grandchildren grow, measuring their height against her own with a smile and a laugh, and celebrating when they finally surpassed her. Those moments, like so many others, left lasting impressions of warmth and joy.

In addition to her husband Anthony, Elaine is survived by her six children, their spouses, twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. From eldest to youngest: John Salvato and his wife Tracy Crogan; John’s children from his previous marriage to the late Susan Childs, Julie Anne (Salvato) Bailey and her husband Chris Bailey, parents to Susanna Bailey, Elaine and Anthony’s first great-grandchild; Luke Salvato and his fiancée Molly Hallweaver; Vincent Salvato; Stephen Salvato, his girlfriend Cathleen Lewis, and his children Tyler and Brenna Salvato from his previous marriage; Ed Salvato and his partner Bryan; Teresa Salvato and her husband Nathaniel Cutter and their child Zoe Salvato-Cutter; Annette (Salvato) Schille and her husband Mark Schille and their sons Ben, Jack, Jay, and Sal Schille; and Mike Salvato and his children Rocco and Lucia Salvato. She was predeceased by her sister Ellen (O’Halloran) Donahue.

A viewing will be held at St. Camillus Church, 1185 Concord Turnpike, Arlington, on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 10:30 to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral mass at 12:00 p.m.

Services will conclude with her burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Elaine will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, her laughter, and the steady presence she was to everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a family bound together by the life she shaped and the love she shared.
