Elinor Breen
1933 - 2025
Elinor "Ellie" Marie Breen (née Comeau), age 92, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025. Born on October 5, 1933, in Malden, Massachusetts, Elinor lived a long and full life in Medford, Randolph, Holbrook and West Bridgewater, Massachusetts and finally in San Leandro, California. Her life was marked by devotion to her family and a deep appreciation for music, games, and the simple joys of togetherness.
Elinor was predeceased by her parents Hubert Frederick Comeau and Ellen Gertrude Lewis. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald Edward Breen. Together they built a family rooted in love and resilience. She was the cherished mother of Thomas Breen and his wife Tracy Young, Christine (Breen) O'Connor, Gerald Breen and his wife Andrea, Michael Breen and his wife Cheryl, Kathleen Breen and her husband Jeromey Shafer, and Paula Breen and her partner Donald Patterson.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Stephanie, Kaitlin, Alison, Dylan, Kylie and Declan Breen, Kerryn (O'Connor) Liberty and Aidan O'Connor, California Shafer, and Brett Callahan. Elinor also delighted in her great-grandchildren Lilith Liberty and Anthony, Jovani and Leondro Callahan.
Elinor was predeceased by her brothers Edward, Robert, and Hubert.
Elinor found joy in many things—especially spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was often filled with the sounds of jazz or Broadway musicals playing softly in the background while she engaged in spirited games of cribbage or Scrabble. Her warmth extended beyond words. She was generous with her time and affection, always ready with a kind word or a knowing smile.
Those who knew Elinor remember her as smart, funny, kind, loyal, strong yet calm— a woman whose patience was matched only by her lighthearted spirit. She had an extraordinary ability to make others feel loved simply by being herself.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026 in the Boston area to honor Elinor's memory among family and friends.
