Elise Raphael, 67, of New York City, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born on December 10, 1958, in Garden City, New York, Elise was known for her strength of character, her sense of humor, and her fierce loyalty to friends and family. Her education and engineering career took her from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Red Bank, New Jersey; to Berkeley and Palo Alto, California; and ultimately to New York City and Port Washington, New York. Along the way, she formed deep and lasting friendships and embraced the distinctive experiences each place had to offer.
Elise's interests were wide-ranging and enthusiastically pursued. She loved playing volleyball, taking long scenic walks, wine tasting, and traveling. She was a longtime and dedicated treasurer of her building's co-op board, and she found great joy in the arts—especially movies, music, and dance. A superb friend and listener, Elise had a rare ability to make people feel seen, at ease, and genuinely valued in her presence.
She devotedly cared for her parents, Marge and Martin Raphael (both deceased), and Elise was unfailingly encouraging and proud of her nephews, Sam and Alec Farid.
Elise persevered through a courageous eight year fight against T-cell lymphoma; in this experience contributing to the advancement of treatments that will benefit future patients.
Elise is survived by her sister, Adrienne Farid, and her brother, Ken Raphael. She is remembered with enduring love by her family and dear friends, who will carry her memory forward.
The family invites donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
