Elizabeth Yntema Alfvin

Elizabeth Yntema Alfvin, 101, died peacefully on February 19, 2026, at her residence at Chestnut Square in Glenview, IL, surrounded by her three children.

She was the wife of the late Donald Alfvin, to whom she was married for 66 years. A graduate of Carleton College, she worked as an accountant and bookkeeper following her graduation.

Active for many years at Glenview Community Church, she was also an avid golfer, bowler, curler, and bridge player, winning numerous club championships at the Glenview Park Golf Club.

She is survived by her three children: Frances Koenig (Jim Christensen) of Mill Valley, California; Peter Alfvin (Victoria) of Manhattan Beach, California; and Richard Alfvin of Pittsford, New York. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wesley Alfvin (April), Kaitlin Alfvin (Ben Mongeau), and Stetson Alfvin; her great-granddaughter, Ella Elizabeth, born February 4, 2026; and ten nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Chestnut Square. Her ashes will be interred in late April in Holland, Michigan, in a private family ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
