Elizandro "Alex" Martinez, 87, passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2025. He was born on October 5, 1938, in Truchas, New Mexico, where he grew up in the mountains surrounded by the love of his parents, Canuto and Florentina, his sisters Elizaida, Evan, Viola, Adelina, and Nellie, and his brother Sixto.
After graduating from Santa Cruz High School, Elizandro moved to Leadville, Colorado, where he began his career as a miner. The skills he learned there became a legacy he proudly passed on to his children. Known for his hard work, resilience, and dedication, Elizandro built a life rooted in family, friendship, and steadfast commitment.
In 1960, he married his first wife, Grace Romero, in Leadville. Together they shared a beautiful life filled with dancing, camping, hunting, and fishing—activities that reflected their special bond and love for the outdoors. They raised four children: Amy (Ismael) Castaneda, Thomas (Valerie) Martinez, Lydia (Joaquin) Dominguez, and Michael (Camila) Martinez. Elizandro and Grace shared 26 years of marriage before her passing in 1986.
After moving to Elko, Elizandro married his second wife, Holly Glaser, in 1996. Together they built a wonderful life full of traveling, camping, fishing, and occasional kayaking. With his kind heart and generous spirit, Elizandro helped raise four additional children: Jenifer (Joe) Bockness, Elliott (Juli) Dutcher, Eric (Tricia) Dutcher, and Daisy (Dan) Lenihan.
Elizandro is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Elizaida, Evan, and Viola; his brother, Sixto; and his daughter Lydia. He is survived by his sisters Adelina and Nellie, who hold dear the many memories they shared with him.
Elizandro will be remembered for his gentle nature, unwavering work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family. His memory lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
