Ellen Aibel Bierman (née Brett) was born on March 20, 1936, at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan to Lorna Bressler Brett and Simon Brett. She spent her early childhood in New York City before her family moved to Westchester County, where she grew up primarily in Scarsdale, New York.

A gifted student, Ellen skipped a grade while attending PS 9 and later completed most of her high school education at the Fieldston School, part of the Ethical Culture system. She spent her senior year of high school in Scarsdale. She attended Simmons College in Boston before transferring to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, graduating with the Class of 1957.

After college, Ellen spent one year teaching third grade in Larchmont, New York, before deciding that teaching was not her calling. She went on to build a distinguished forty-year career in real estate, becoming both an agent and broker with the leading agency in Scarsdale. Over the course of her career, she earned numerous local and county performance awards, reflecting her professionalism, work ethic, and deep connection to the community she served.

In addition to her professional life, Ellen found meaning in volunteer service. Her most personally rewarding roles included psychological testing at Bloomingdale Hospital and serving as an aide at St. Agnes Hospital and White Plains Hospital, all in Westchester County New York.

In 1958, Ellen married Benjamin Aibel, with whom she had two children, Jeffrey and Karen. The family lived in Scarsdale, New York. That marriage later ended in divorce. She subsequently married Jordan Bierman, who predeceased her on January 13, 2002.

As her needs changed later in life, Ellen chose to live closer to family. She moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to be near her daughter Karen, where she lived for four years. In January 2022, she relocated to Corso Atlanta, a senior residential community in Georgia, just around the corner from her son Jeffrey.

Ellen Aibel Bierman died peacefully on November 2, 2025, at the age of 89.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Aibel, who died on November 13, 2024, and by her husband Jordan Bierman. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Aibel, and his wife, Kathryn, and by her granddaughter, Sydney Aibel.

Throughout her life, Ellen was guided by independence, intellect, and devotion to family—qualities that shaped her long career, her service to others, and the generations who follow her.
