Ellen Kay Fallick, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Irondale, Alabama, on March 24, 2026. She was a devoted and longtime resident of Irondale for over five decades.
Kay was born on December 5, 1939, in Ogdensburg, New York, and was raised in DeKalb Junction, NY. She attended SUNY Canton, where she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, beginning what would become a long and meaningful career in the banking industry.
In December 1963, she married Mark Vebber. Together they built a loving family and raised their three children—Valerie, Scott, and Brett—while living in Binghamton, Syracuse, and Plattsburgh, New York. In search of a warmer climate for their youngest son Brett, who battled cystic fibrosis, Kay made the selfless decision to move her family to Irondale, AL, where she would live for the next 53 years.
Kay devoted many years as a stay-at-home mother, pouring her heart into raising her children. Once they were older, she returned to work and enjoyed a successful career with AmSouth Bank and later SouthTrust Bank, retiring from collections at the age of 65.
On May 2, 1992, she married Julius Fallick in the Rose Garden in Birmingham, Alabama. They shared many happy years together until his passing in July 2015.
Kay was a deeply devoted mother, "Mimi Kay", sister, aunt, and friend. She had a servant's heart and found great joy in caring for others. Her faith was central to her life, and she was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church at Eastwood, Edgewood Presbyterian Church in Homewood, and later Cahaba Park Presbyterian Church in Liberty Park. She cherished her church family as an extension of her own.
She had a passion for baking, gardening, and admiring the beauty of God's creation. Kay also spent countless hours researching her family history on Ancestry, taking great pride in preserving her family's story for future generations. She loved antiques and treasured items passed down through the years, as well as her daily devotions and time spent reading about Christ.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Harrison Lavine; her mother, Daisy Laura Bishop; her brother, Richard Lavine (Pat); her brother-in-law, Barry Scholz (Judy); her brother-in-law Thomas Kent (Eileen); her niece, Kim Lavine; and her first husband, Mark Vebber (Gloria) and her second husband, Julius Fallick.
Kay is survived by her sister, Judy Scholz; her sister-in-law, Pat Lavine; her sister-in-law Eileen Kent; her children, Valerie Carter (Ken), Scott Vebber (Michelle), and Brett Vebber (Tracy); her grandson, William Vebber; her nephews, Jason Scholz, Cory Lavine, Tommy Lavine (Jody), Geoff Kent (Laurie), Matthew Kent (Kellen); step children, Seth Fallick (Erin); Ira Fallick; Bradley Hammer, David Hammer, and Estelle Hammer Kohl; step grandchildren, Abraham and Alexandra Fallick; as well as many dear friends who were like family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Alabama in her honor of son Brett Vebber. https://give.cff.org/alabama/Donate (When making donation please select in memory of Kay Fallick).
