Born on August 19, 1947, in San Diego, Ellen entered the world prematurely, weighing just 16 ounces. She became blind due to oxygen exposure in the incubator but went on to live a life defined by resilience, faith, and an extraordinary capacity for compassion.
Ellen attended the Washington State School for the Blind, where she became proficient in braille. After high school, she pursued various lessons and classes that enriched her knowledge and skills. Her dedication to learning was matched only by her commitment to helping others. Throughout her career, Ellen worked tirelessly to connect with those in need, ensuring that every person felt seen, heard, and cared for.
A gifted musician, Ellen found immense joy in playing the piano and accordion. She had an uncanny ability to play any tune by ear and brought happiness to those around her through her music. Her love for music was complemented by her affection for babies and dolls—symbols of her gentle and nurturing spirit.
