Augusta - Thursday, February 26, 2026. Elmer James Frace Jr passed away peacefully at MaineGeneral Medical Center with his family by his side.
Born in Middlesex, New Jersey on December 28, 1936, the son of Elmer and Hazel (O’Donnell) Frace. Elmer attended schools in New Market, New Jersey, he left at the age of 16 to help support his family.
While working at Revlon Cosmetics in Edison, New Jersey, he met and later married Lillian. The two shared a long and loving marriage that lasted 67 years.
Elmer moved his family to Maine in 1961 to give his children a more rural upbringing. Elmer worked at a variety of manufacturing jobs throughout his life, holding positions that ranged from line worker to supervisor. When his children were teenagers, he briefly worked for the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. His children always suspected he took the job so he could keep an eye on them and their friends. Elmer was a long-time member of the Canaan Masonic Lodge and a Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Elmer thoroughly enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife. After their children graduated from high school, he and his wife began spending more time traveling. They embraced the RV lifestyle and explored many places around the country. One of the highlights of their travels was spending ten days in Albuquerque, New Mexico during the famous balloon festival. Eventually, they settled in Florida for an early retirement. Where they operated a few small businesses of their own. When they later reached full retirement, they returned to Maine to enjoy their final years surrounded by family.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Lillian (Bachmann) Frace; his children Debra, Elmer(Bud), and Laurie; and his grandchildren - Carrie, Sarah, John, Danielle, Jason, Krista, Meghan and Courtney. He is also survived by his brother, James; 21 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Elmer was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Hazel Frace; his in-laws, George and Elizabeth Bachmann; his brother, Wallace Frace; his sister Kathyrn Peters; his daughter, Linda Frace; his grandson, Isaac Robinson; his niece, Cathy Gurney and his son in-law, Michael Vermette.
A Celebration of Life for Elmer will be held April 19th, from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Fairfield VFW Lodge, 246 Main Street, Fairfield. A Spring Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Hartland Road, Canaan on May 31st at 10:00 am.
