Emma Anne “Mimi” Johnson (née Onley), age 94, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, in Arlington, Massachusetts. Born on April 5, 1931, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Anne was taught the importance of education by many strong women in her family. Her life unfolded with a vibrant curiosity. Affectionately known as “Mimi,” her presence was full of zest. Her sharp intellect and love for discovery wove through every chapter of her life, leaving an indelible mark on those who walked beside her. She was the beloved wife of the late Clayton Ross Johnson and the devoted mother of the late Ewell “Bud” Johnson. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Dana Mihok, and son-in-law, Bryan Mihok, as a Mom who was always up for an adventure. Her grandchildren, Kylie Mihok and Vaugn Mihok, brought immense joy to her and were a constant source of pride. She loved being “pranked” by them and the laughter that came with each event. She was their Mimi, confidante and best friend. Mimi joined her Mihok family from Thanksgiving through the New Year for two decades. It was a cherished time that forged deep, meaningful connection. Her laughter invited conversation, sparked thought, and lifted spirits. She remained active in mind and body, continuing to read voraciously and lift weights at the gym. Her unwavering support nurtured those around her through life’s many turns. She embraced life and humankind with liberal acceptance. Her heart was huge and tender for those who struggled. When making decisions about her loss of independence and deteriorating quality of life in her final month, she bravely stated, “Cease and desist!” choosing to embrace her death with grace. Her final weeks were filled with joy and heartbreak, cheese and chicken wings, cashmere and storytelling alongside family that loved her dearly. Mimi’s legacy is her joyful resilience that will continue to inspire others to embrace life fully. Memories of sweet Mimi will always have more laughter than tears.
