Emory "Bill" Coleman Joplin

1937 - 2026

Emory "Bill" Coleman Joplin, 88, of Lakehead, California, passed away on February 7, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and loyal friend, Bill lived a full life marked by laughter, service, and a love for the simple joys that mattered most.

Bill was best known for his love of water skiing, boating, camping, traveling, working on old cars—and, as anyone who knew him well would say, a good dose of BS-ing. He had a gift for conversation, a sharp sense of humor, and an easy way of making people feel at home. Time spent outdoors, on the water, or swapping stories with friends was time well spent in Bill's book.

He proudly served in the United States Army before beginning a long and dedicated career as a pressman with the San Francisco Chronicle. His strong work ethic and reliability were hallmarks of both his professional and personal life.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Joplin; his children Sandra Boyle (Craig Boyle), William Joplin (Kim Joplin), and Margie Wolosz (Chris Wolosz); six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a large and loving family who will continue to carry his stories, values, and humor forward.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmen Lasso; his brother, Lou; his sister, Janice; his daughter, Cindy Joplin; and his grandsons, Nathan and Mitchell Boyle.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill's memory to:

Penny Pines Plantation, c/o Redding Wonderland Garden Club:
Kari Cattanach 10418 Surrey Ln, Redding CA 96003

Or to Shriners Children's Hospital—organizations that were close to his heart.

Bill's legacy of love, laughter, service, and storytelling will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.

Consider a donation, as requested by the family.
