Erin Elizabeth Hoagstrom (Butler), 47, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on December 28, 2025. She was born December 25, 1978 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Erin dedicated her life to her family, her students, and her country.

Erin graduated from Cibola High School in Albuquerque in 1997. While in high school Erin participated in Amigos De Las Americas in which she spent a summer in Central America helping others and learning Spanish. After high school Erin attended the University of New Mexico completing her Bachelor’s Degree. She continued her education at UNM completing her Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology in 2010.

In 2011 she began working as a speech therapist with Albuquerque Public Schools. In recent years she was employed by Cooperative Education Services. In this position she worked in several charter schools. She loved her students!

From 1999 to 2005, Erin served in the Army National Guard, where she built a foundation of discipline and camaraderie that she carried into her civilian life.

Erin's life was rich with personal relationships. She is survived by her daughter Cassidy Hoagstrom, her husband Sherwin Hoagstrom, her mother Patricia Saavedra, her brother Jonathan Butler, her nephew Tristan Butler, and her niece Katie Schimsa. She was preceded in death by her father William Butler, her sister Shannon Schimsa, and her stepfather Larry Saavedra.

Erin enjoyed nature, animals, and books. She loved hiking and reading. She loved her dogs and later in life, her cats.

A service to celebrate Erin's life will be held on February 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria RD NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Erin will be remembered for her compassion for others, her dedication to her family and students, and her service to her country. Her warmth, creativity, and the deep connections she forged will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
