Ernest Colwell

1938 - 2026

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Ernest (Ernie) Colwell, who went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2026, in Flagstaff. He was 88 years old.
Born in 1938 in Owego, NY, he carried the values of hard work, faith, and family with him throughout his life. He built a long and dedicated career with the Arizona Department of Transportation, where he faithfully served his community until retirement.
Outside of work, he nurtured a lifelong passion that brought him endless joy: model railroading. For more than 70 years, he carefully crafted layouts and shared stories through miniature trains, a hobby that reflected his patience, creativity, and attention to detail. It was more than a pastime—it was a reflection of who he was.
Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Henrietta; his children, Lynn, Lielia, Laura, Phelan, and Katrina; nine cherished grandchildren; and one treasured great-granddaughter. His family was the center of his world, and his steady presence, quiet strength, and gentle guidance will be deeply missed.
A child of God, he lived his faith through kindness, integrity, and service to others. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he shared so freely.
He will be remembered always and missed beyond measure.
