Erwin "Ron" Benjamin

Erwin Ronald "Ron" Benjamin, 70, passed away on February 17, 2026 in Alexandria, Virginia. He was a loving father, brother, friend, and a familiar face in the Northern Virginia optical community.

As a 30-year cancer survivor, Ron always kept things light. He liked to remind people not to take things too seriously, often encouraging them to "drink the dirty martini" or "have a little dessert." Ron had many friends and colleagues and those that knew him best, knew his easygoing nature and ability to make everyone feel comfortable and seen. Whether he was helping someone pick out their first pair of glasses or sharing a quick laugh, he had a way of lightening the moment. He cared deeply about the people around him, and he showed it in small, meaningful ways.

His greatest joy was his family. Ron is survived by his children, Andrew, Liesel, Kyle, and Kalie, who meant the world to him. He is also survived by his brother Michael Benjamin, his sister Anita Benjamin and his dog Sadie, his loyal peppy sidekick.

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to The Head & Neck Cancer Alliance or the ASPCA or to plant a tree in his memory.
