Esther T. Welden (Taylor) passed away in Scranton, PA on April 17, 2026 at the age of 94. She was born in Montrose, PA on September 19, 1931 to Louis and Mabel (Davies) Taylor.

Esther attended Montrose High School, and later went on to attend Keystone Junior College and University of Pennsylvania. She attended the University of Minnesota to attain her teaching degree. She taught in the Montrose Area School District for 25 years before retiring in 1991. She was involved in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church choir for many years, as well as serving as a member of the Daughters of the King, up to 2018. She was also a member of the Church St. Singers. She demonstrated and taught classes on dyeing and weaving, as well as spinning of wool at Old Mill Village in New Milford for many years. She continued at the Home Textile Museum in Orwell, PA. She volunteered at assisted living and personal care facilities in the Montrose area to pray and sing with the residents.

In 1954 Esther married Joe Glaser. Shortly after his death, Esther met Robert “Joe” Welden. Esther and Robert Welden were married on January 23, 1969 at St. Marks Episcopal Church in New Milford PA, and shared a blessed 51 years together.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, first husband, and her second husband Joe Welden, brothers Elmer and Richard Taylor, sisters Ruth (Yeager) and Grace (McCullough). She is survived by her daughter Janet Fish and stepdaughter Mary Stasko (James), stepsons David Welden (Janice) and R. Rexford Welden (Marlene), 12 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.

A funeral service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will be announced during the month of May, in addition to a Celebration of Life service during the month of June.
