Eula Mae Murphy Barnes Givens was born on August 20, 1946, in Gary, Indiana, to Emma and James Murphy, and was later adopted by Henry and Alice Barnes. Eula Mae attended Tolleston High School, later graduating in 1966.
Eula dedicated 30 years of her life to Inland Steel, where she met and later married Sidney Givens. Their marriage lasted 27 years. Sidney introduced Eula to bowling, which ignited a passion in her. Within her first year of playing, she proudly celebrated a championship win.
Eula Mae Givens peacefully passed away at Methodist Hospital, Northlake, surrounded by her loving family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emma and James Murphy, and Alice and Henry Barnes; her sister, Katherine Johnson; and her brothers, Henry Otis Barnes Jr. and Alonzo Blades. Eula Mae is survived by her devoted husband, Sidney Givens Sr.; her daughter, Patrice Elaine Brantley; her son, Marvin Louis Brantley (Sylvia); Sidney Givens Jr (Kelly). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, David Brantley Sr. (Ariana) and Patrice Nicole Brantley; her great-grandchildren, David Brantley Jr., LaDaeh Brantley, Anthony Jones, and Emonnii Mitchell; a special nephew, Richard Smith ; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
