Evelyn Eileen Syski

Evelyn E. Syski (Melcavage), 76, of Buckhannon, WV passed peacefully to her eternal home on April 11, 2026. Survived by her loving husband, Witold (“Vito”); her son, Tom Briggs (Tracey); grandchildren Thomas and Tabitha Briggs; nieces Nancy Jones, Tammy Renner, and Rachel Padgett. Evelyn was predeceased by her father, Peter Eugene Melcavage, mother Eileen Wilson McHargue, and brother Francis Melcavage (Cathy).

After Evelyn’s retirement from the federal government, she and Witold moved to West Virginia in 2018. Evelyn was a loving person who enjoyed talking to new people, old friends, and everyone in between. She worked as a greeter at St. Joseph’s hospital for two years, volunteering for the Buckhannon Volunteers In Police Service, and conducting Bingo-size classes at the Upshur County Senior Center. Evelyn loved her church family at Buckhannon Alliance Church where she served as the Hostess for Coffee and Conversation.

Evelyn's family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the West Virginia University Home Hospice Care, the Crestview Manor Healthcare Center, the Oncology department of United Health Center, Integrative Wellness, and the loving care and support of her church family.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on May 30, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., Buckhannon Alliance Church located at 438 Phillips Dairy Road, Buckhannon, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Buckhannon Alliance Church.
