Fernando C. Flores Jr., 78, passed away on January 8, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, the city where he was born on May 3, 1947. A lifelong resident of San Antonio, Fernando lived a life marked by strength, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to his family and passions.
Fernando was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Delfina Flores and a devoted father to children Justine (husband Richard) Gomez, Veronica (husband John) Moreno, Fernando A. (wife Sarah) Flores, and Kristine (husband Jesse) Trevino; and grandfather to Mikael, Jonah, Mia, Noah, Seth, Maleena, Lillian, Cecilya, Eleanor, Margaret, and Sebastian. His love for his grandchildren was evident in the joy he found attending their games and could often be found huddled in the nearest shady spot, proudly supporting them in all their endeavors.
Fernando was preceded in death by his father, Fernando Flores Sr.; his mother, Antonia Flores; and his cherished wife, Delfina. He is also remembered by his brother George Flores and sisters Lupe Ingle and Irma Martinez. He is loved and will be deeply missed by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
Fernando's professional life was marked by adaptability, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility. He began his career with the Coca-Cola Corporation before changing paths and working as a procurement manager for both SeaWorld San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. During the startup phases of both parks, Fernando earned recognition for his dedication and contributions, helping establish key operational foundations. Later in his career, he found great fulfillment as a safety manager for multiple organizations, taking pride in protecting employees and promoting safer work environments. His work reflected his caring nature, integrity, and commitment to the well-being of others.
From an early age, Fernando displayed a deep love for sports and the outdoors. As a young man, he played with passion and skill, qualities that later carried into the many years he spent coaching not only his own children, but countless others as well. His influence extended far beyond the field; he was a mentor who gave generously of his time, energy, and encouragement. So lasting was his impact that friends and even strangers continued to refer to him as "Coach" throughout his life; a title he wore with great pride.
Often referred to as the "Mexican MacGyver," Fernando was a man of many talents and boundless creativity. He had a natural gift for working with his hands, whether repairing something around the house or crafting intricate pieces through metalwork. He approached every project with diligence and care, and his metal creations were more than functional objects, they were true expressions of his imagination, skill, and craftsmanship.
Fernando's love for the outdoors remained constant throughout his life. He found peace in nature through bow hunting and later gardening, a hobby that blended patience with precision. He treasured time spent outside, moments that reflected not only his appreciation for solitude but also his deep connection to the natural world.
Those who knew Fernando remember him as hardworking and driven, a man who never shied away from responsibility or challenge. He was caring and helpful to those around him, always ready to lend a hand or offer support without hesitation. Above all, he was a loving husband and father whose presence brought comfort and strength to those closest to him.
May the memory of Fernando C. Flores Jr., his enduring love for family, creative spirit, and steadfast character, bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
