Florence Leiby

Florence L. Leiby, 98, of Lewisburg, passed away on February 7, 2026, at Heather Court, Nottingham Village, Northumberland. Florence was the wife of the late Roy Leiby; they were married 57 years.

She was born in Danville on November 13, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Knorr) Hendershot. Florence grew up in a time that taught her the value of hard work and taking pride in the little things.

She was a graduate of Danville High School, then was employed for a number of years at Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg. She was a member of Montandon United Methodist Church.

Florence was most content at home and she'll be remembered for keeping a neat, clean house.

In earlier years she enjoyed putting puzzles together. She loved listening to polka music and didn't miss watching "Lawrence Welk" and the Pennsylvania Polkas" on Saturday night. She liked to play the game Rummikub and participated in the Silver Sneakers exercise program for an impressive 25 years.

She is survived by her children: Deborah Wells (Michael) of Stroudsburg, Barry Leiby of Lewisburg, and Brent Leiby (Joanne) of Blue Bell; 5 grandchildren, Brad Wells, Kristin Wells, Sarah Leiby, Emily Piechuta (David), Grant Leiby; 2 great grandchildren, Wesley and Franklin Piechuta.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers; George Lunger, Howard Lunger, Frank Hendershot, Henry "Cam" Hendershot and four sisters; Alice Ploch Ent, Margaret Hendershot, Kathryn Dentinger, Victoria Shultz. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday,May 9, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the New Berlin Cemetery with the Rev. James Cope officiating. Florence's life was a reminder that happiness doesn't have to be complicated—sometimes it's found in a good song.
