Evangelist Florence Walker, a devoted servant of God whose life radiated faith, discipline, and compassion, entered her eternal rest at the age of 90. Born in Chicago to Arthur King and Myrtle Love, she was baptized in 1956 by Bishop Charles E. Poole at Bethlehem Healing Temple and committed herself early to a life of ministry.
She attended Gladys Grade School and Manley Career Academy High School. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Joe L. Williams Sr., and from this union came two children, Mark and Deidra. In 1995, she married her second husband, John H. Walker.
In her 40s, she proudly earned her GED and later became a published author of Alzheimer's: Been There, Done That.
A pillar of The Wonder Working Word Church in Gary, Indiana, Florence served faithfully as an Evangelist, preacher, teacher, and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. Her ministry reached far beyond the church walls, preaching in homes, leading the Respond Now Food Pantry, teaching Bible classes in senior homes, and offering encouragement to everyone she met. Her consecrated walk with God included eleven years of seven-day fasting as she sought divine direction for others.
At home, Florence created a sanctuary of warmth, prayer, and unconditional love. She taught her family to trust God, love deeply, and walk in integrity—values that continue to shape generations.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John H. Walker; her daughter, Michelle; and her sisters Yvonne, Marilyn, Joyce, and Shirley.
Florence leaves to honor her memory: Children: Mark (Jeanetta) Williams and Deidra (Mario) Thompson
Sisters: Patricia Murphy and Kathleen (Jerome) Singleton Grandchildren: Darion (Susan), Jevon (Raquel), Darrick (Pamela), Nicholas, Brittany, Jemese (Keo), Ti'Jeana, and Autumn Great-grandchildren: Nineteen Godchildren: A beloved best friend, and a host of extended family, friends, and church members.
Her life was a testament to faith, love, and service—an example that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
