Send Flowers Plant A Tree

Frances Broder was born in Manhattan in 1931, the daughter of Robert and Ruth Tolchin. She was the oldest of four children.

On Friday, October 13, 1950, she met the love of her life, Benjamin H. Broder. They married in June, 1951. Fran and Ben were blessed to have 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Fran spent the early years of her marriage in the Bronx and Far Rockaway but lived the last 50 years in Cedarhurst, LI. She worked alongside her husband Ben at BHB Pest Elimination, the company they started in 1969. She was so dedicated that she commuted into the city 3 days a week up until the covid-19 pandemic, when at close to 89 years old, she learned how to work remotely.

Fran was a die-hard New York Yankee fan and a whiz at word games. She really enjoyed solving cryptograms and Wordle. She was also a pro at Rummikub. She loved clothes and never stepped outside without looking perfectly put together.

Fran had a way of making friends everywhere. She could be on the train, in a store or in a restaurant and would usually start a conversation with a compliment. She had a way of remembering people and having people remember her.

But above all, Fran was most dedicated to her family. She was the center of the family; always putting everyone else first. She celebrated every success, provided comfort in hard times, and showed everyone what unconditional love is.

She is survived by her children: Trudy (Lenny) Stern, Eileen (Bruce) Sackman, Hedy (partner, Fred DaVeiga) Knapp and Michael (Linda) Broder. She is also survived by grandchildren: Allison (James), Jonathan (Candace), David (Ari), Erica (Austin), Barrie (Dara), Jaime, Zack (Hailley), and Lizzie; as well as her brother Elliot and niece Nancy (George). She was pre-deceased by her husband Ben, grandson Brendan, brother Ted and sister Mildred.
