Francis Charles Egan, 85, of Atlanta Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on April 16, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born on April 18, 1940 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Frank was the youngest child and only son of Anna and John Egan. He had two older sisters, Carol and Betty, who he adored. Frank graduated from the United States Military Academy in June 1961, and married the love of his life on June 8, 1961, the day after graduation. Betty and Frank were married 57 years, until Betty passed in 2018.
Frank's distinguished military career in the United States Army spanned 30 years, with tours at the Berlin Wall, Vietnam, and the admissions department for the United States Military Academy, West Point. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded a Bronze Star with "V" device for valor. Rising to the rank of Colonel, he finished his Army career as a Military Academy Liaison Officer (MALO) helping the next generation of leaders gain admission into West Point.
After active duty, Frank entered the corporate world with a career lasting more than 40 years, most notably serving as a Senior Vice President of Institutional Sales at Merrill Lynch. He was an active member of the Atlanta Municipal Bond Club and was widely admired by colleagues across the industry. Known for his deep expertise and steady judgment, he earned the trust and respect of his clients throughout the Southeast.
Frank was an incredible storyteller. He could captivate an entire room with a story or a well told joke; his delivery and timing were uncanny. He was an avid golfer and served as President of the Indian Hills Golf Association in 1993. He loved baseball, racquetball (back in the day!), fishing, any competitive sporting event (especially the ones showcasing his grandchildren's talents), the beach, a great scotch and a good cigar.
Frank was a devote Catholic. He graduated from Matignon Catholic High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was a founding member of St. Ann Catholic Church in East Cobb. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and regularly kept vigil in Eucharistic Adoration. He drew great spiritual strength from his Tuesday morning Bible study group in East Cobb and Saturday morning Mass with Father John at Mt. Vernon.
Frank is survived by his children who he loved dearly, Eric Egan (Michelle), Scott Egan (Becky), and Kristin Domescik (Kirk) and grandchildren Benjamin and Gregory Egan, Caroline and Davis Domescik, and Camilla Hermida and Macy Brock, and many nieces and nephews. His family brought him so much joy and happiness. He will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 2 pm at St. Ann Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia with a reception immediately following at Indian Hills Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to hospice at Visiting Nurse Health Systems, 1 Ravinia Drive, Suite 1430, Atlanta, GA 30346, designated to support underserved patients cared for by Hospice Atlanta.
