Fred (“Freddie”) James Crescente Jr. passed away on January 19, 2026, at the age of 78.

He is survived by his loving husband, Robert Kent Walkup; his younger brothers, Fred Andrew, James Joseph, and David Mark; and his sister, Joyce Ann, along with nieces and nephews, countless friends, fellow artists, and devoted fans whose lives he touched deeply. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Fred J. Crescente; his mother, Helene (Miller) Crescente; his stepmother, Joyce (Davadick) Crescente; and his beloved sisters, Kathleen and Helene, known as The Toni Twins.

Freddie graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1965 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, Television, and Film from the University of Miami — the foundation for a creative life that would flourish in remarkable ways.

Freddie was a singularly talented pianist, performer, composer, and lyricist who brought light and joy wherever he appeared. Under his stage name, Keith Crescente, he built an acclaimed and varied cabaret career, captivating audiences with original shows such as “Waitering for Godot,” and “The Other Jersey Boy.” His performances consistently drew sellout crowds, enchanted by his wit, warmth, and undeniable presence.

Among the many highlights of his artistic life was the opportunity to compose and perform “Never Stop Moving,” a tribute to the legendary dancer and choreographer Luigi Faccuito. Freddie performed the song at Luigi’s 85th birthday celebration to rave reviews — a moment that perfectly reflected his generosity of spirit and devotion to honoring those he admired.

Affectionately known as “Skip” to his family, Freddie set the standard for thoughtfulness and grace. His deep faith, along with his love of family, formed the foundation of the life he so generously shared with others. He never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or milestone, delighting loved ones with heartfelt cards and carefully chosen gifts. He cherished his family deeply and, with warmth and intention, was often the one who brought everyone together. His sense of humor was ever-present, keeping those around him in stitches with his quick wit and impeccable timing. His impressions of Bette Davis and Mae West were nothing short of legendary.

Beyond the stage, Freddie was also a gifted artist, a passionate fashion connoisseur, and a talented chef — a true Renaissance man whose creativity infused every aspect of his life.

He will be remembered for his elegance, humor, loyalty, and boundless talent. His light lives on in the music he wrote, the laughter he inspired, and the love he so generously gave.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Church, 404 E. 87th Street, New York, NY.
