Fred Kent Lanouette died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 6, 2025, in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Fred was born on July 3, 1936, to Hugo and Wilma Lanouette in Klamath Falls, Oregon. His family moved to Washington State during his childhood. He married Mary Halady on May 17, 1958, at St. Gabriel Church in Port Orchard, Washington.
Fred is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; his children Katherine, Lesa (Steve), and Mark; his grandchildren Alexandra (Steve), Sophia (Kyle), Zachary, Jason (Amy), Genevieve (Josh), Jesse, and Jacob; great grandchildren Tito, Knightley, Berent, Emmett, Mila, River, Elijah, Micah, and Weston; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred grew up all over Washington, spending the majority of his childhood in Prosser, where he graduated from Prosser High School in 1954. He attended Seattle University, where he met his wife, Mary. He remained a wanderer and adventurer at heart his entire life, moving his family to Washington, Nevada, California, Hawaii, Arizona, Florida, and Alaska, and settling in his last years in Virginia with his wife and oldest daughter Katherine.
Fred was a lifelong and talented entertainer and singer, and he owned or managed many bars and clubs in Washington and Alaska during his lifetime. Early in Fred's career, he was the Entertainment Director at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, where he sang at Elvis and Priscilla Presley's wedding in 1967. In 1972, Fred and Mary sold everything, flew their family of five to the United Kingdom, traveled to Germany, bought a Volkswagen van, and hit the road, camping throughout Europe and Northern Africa for six months to experience the world.
Fred bought the Old Towne Pub in Silverdale, Washington, in 1975, and lovingly ran it until he sold it in 2018. Mary designed their dream home after years of traveling, and they built it in 1994 in Woodinville, Washington, where they resided between motor-home trips until their move to Virginia in 2019. For his last career chapter, Fred drove for Uber, allowing him to regale riders with his life adventures and get out of the house, while still staying close to home.
Fred never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He had a unique and singular joy for life and was thrilled to be alive every day.
There will be no service at this point in time, but we welcome all your stories and memories. Fred and Mary have planned to have their ashes spread, together, in the California redwoods when they are reunited.
