Frederick John Carlson
September 4, 1928 - December 1, 2025

Frederick John Carlson died peacefully on December 1, 2025, at the age of 97. Fred was born on September 4, 1928, in Oakland California, to Dr. Frederick Carlson and Irene Keltner Carlson. Dr. Carlson emigrated from Sweden and Fred never forgot his Swedish heritage. He was predeceased in death by his parents and sisters, Marjorie and Jane, and his adopted son John Carlson.

Fred was greatly influenced by joining the Boy Scouts in 5th grade. It was there that he met his best friends, Jack Hasling, Hollis Hardy and John Altrocchi and they remained friends throughout their lives. Fred had every job imaginable and every event reminded him of a story from his life. Fred worked his way through college and attended San Francisco City College for one year and went on to graduate from UC Berkeley with a degree in Forestry.

Fred went to the Army after college and was assigned to the Presidio in San Francisco and once again had every job imaginable in the Army. Fred went on to become a successful planner for the City of Santa Clara. In 1989 he married the love of his life, Madge "Ann" Lee who he met on a Sierra Club hike. They lived in Cupertino and not long after that Fred retired from the City of Santa Clara but not from life. He then went on to be a chauffeur and kept himself busy with 49er games, classical music, reading, motorcycle riding, skiing, golfing, bridge, swimming and every other sport you can think of.

Fred wanted to be remembered as a "nice guy" and he certainly was that. Fred was always up for an adventure and always looked on the bright side of life. Fred is survived by his wife, Madge Ann Carlson, his son Carl Carlson, his granddaughter Kami Windisch, and nephew Michael O'Sullivan. Fred is also survived by his stepdaughters, Tracy Flynn, her husband Timothy and their three sons, Hunter, Sam and Kelly and Kimberly Woloson and her husband Harry and her children Kristin and Travis.

"When I get where I'm going on the far side of the sky, the first thing I'm going to do is spread my wings and fly." Rest in peace, sweet Freddie. You were loved and you are missed.
