Frederick Thorndike Hull passed away on November 5, 2025, at Eisenhower Hospital. He was 88 years old.
Fred was born in 1937 in Whittier, California, to Julia and Robert Hull. He spent portions of his childhood in Indiana and Southern California and graduated from high school in San Marino, California. He went on to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he earned a degree in business in 1959. During that time, Fred was a member of the Delta tau Delta Fraternity where he made lifelong friends. Boulder is also where he met the love of his life, Nancy Perrine and married her shortly after graduation.
Fred spent his entire professional career with Carnation Food Company and later Nestlé, beginning as a salesperson and rising through the ranks to become President of Nestlé Brands Food Service Company. Overseeing a billion-dollar operation, he led national sales to restaurants and hotels and held leadership roles within the food service industry, including service with the National Restaurant Association Foundation and as Chairman of the Board of the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association. After retiring, Fred served on several boards of directors and volunteered for the Big Brother organization mentoring a wonderful young man who he remained in contact with for the rest of his life.
Fred and Nancy raised three daughters—Lisa, Lindy, and Laurie. Though proud of his career, Fred considered fatherhood his greatest role. He was deeply involved in his daughters' lives and remained a devoted family man throughout his life. Sadly, Nancy passed away in 2005. A few years later, Fred found happiness again when he married Millie Baumer. They traveled to many spectacular places, and they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and their beloved dog Casper.
A devoted grandfather, Fred cherished his relationships with his grandchildren and created lasting memories through traditions like "Camp Freddy" where everyone would play silly games and compete for prizes. Four of his eight grandchildren followed in his footsteps attending the University of Colorado. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Fred loved college football, especially the University of Colorado, and was a passionate supporter of all collegiate athletics. Fred was also an avid collector as evidenced by his large collection of buffalo and Carnation memorabilia.
Known for his warmth, curiosity, and larger-than-life personality, Fred had a gift for connecting with people wherever he went.
Fred is survived by his wife, Millie; his siblings Phil, Bob, and Cathy; his daughters Lisa (Johnson Schaff), Lindy (Jim Mallon), and Laurie (Craig Nelson); and his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
