Gabriele Wood, née Grosse, passed away on December 18, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 75 years old.
Gabriele, beloved friend to many, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, passed away peacefully.
Born in Germany, she learned early the value of courage and compassion, shaping a life lived with purpose and integrity.
Gabriele made her home in Nashville, Tennessee, where she worked for over 20 years at Vanderbilt University and later for the State of Tennessee in law and disability services. She was deeply committed to community, justice, and caring for others, while raising her children and welcoming friends and chosen family into her home.
A proud U.S. citizen, animal advocate, and believer in the inherent goodness of people, Gabriele lived by action rather than words. In keeping with her lifelong values, she chose to donate her body to Vanderbilt and to contribute to science—her final act of generosity.
She is survived by her children Oliver and Seema, and grandchildren Molly and Liam; great-granddaughter Lyra; and her brothers, Rolf and Stefan.
She will be remembered for her strength, clarity, humor, and fierce compassion. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched.
