Gail Kanter, aged 89, passed away on December 13, 2025, in New York, NY. She earned her bachelor's degree from Boston University and a master's degree from Columbia Teachers College.
Gail leaves behind a loving family, including her husband of 62 years, Carl Kanter, her children, Deborah, David, Andrew and Aaron, and her brother, John. She was a cherished grandmother to Benjamin, Henry, Rebecca, Allison, Lauren, Danielle, Adam and Laila, and a great-grandmother to Rivka. She is also survived by her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, Ira, Adrienne, Karen, and Andrea, and her grand daughter-in-law, Chaya Esther. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Dorothy Herman.
Throughout her career, Gail was a passionate teacher to the young and visually impaired, who also embraced innovative cooking techniques, sharing her knowledge of Cuisinart skills with family and friends. She was a member of Kehilath Jeshurun in New York, where she actively participated in community life.
A funeral service will be held at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Avenue, NY, NY at 11:30 am on December 15th. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Totowa, NJ. Shiva will be observed on December 16th, 2025, from 5-8 pm at 993 Park Avenue, New York, NY.
