Gail Michael Vickers

Mr. Gail Michael Vickers passed away peacefully at his home in Vista, California, on October 7, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God, Gail lived a life marked by deep love, unwavering faith, and steadfast dedication to those around him.

Born on April 12, 1944, at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California, Gail was the only child of Clyde and Lois Vickers. After two previous miscarriages, his birth was a cherished blessing for his parents. His mother's deep affection for him was evident from the beginning—she remained bedridden for the last six months of her pregnancy to ensure his safe arrival.

From an early age, Gail demonstrated a strong work ethic and a drive for excellence. Under the guidance of his father, a no-nonsense man who instilled discipline and responsibility, Gail began working in construction at just eight years old. He helped build hundreds of homes in the Imperial Beach area of San Diego—sanding, raking, digging, and nailing alongside his family.

Gail excelled academically and athletically. He was valedictorian of his high school class and a standout athlete—an accomplished second baseman and gymnast. It was during his senior year at Mar Vista High School in 1962 that he met Carol, the love of his life. Their bond grew quickly and deeply; they married shortly before graduating from San Diego State University.

Gail's professional journey reflected perseverance and purpose. Despite initial challenges finding employment after college, he felt called to pharmacy. He enrolled at the University of Texas Pharmacy School and graduated after two and a half years. Licensed in both California and Texas, Gail served as a pharmacist for 45 years—a career he genuinely loved for its opportunity to help others.

Together with Carol—his beloved wife of 50 years—Gail built a life centered on faith and family. They raised two children: Scott and Tracy. Scott pursued interests in motorcycles and computers, graduated from college, married, and brought three grandchildren into Gail's life: Rachel, Bailey, and Benjamin. Tracy was named high school female athlete of the year before graduating college herself; she too married and gave Gail two more grandchildren: Nathan and Callie.

Family was everything to Gail. He celebrated birthdays and Christmases with joyful abundance—his generosity shining brightest during those special times. His devotion to Carol was unwavering through every season of life. In 2001, when Carol began her 13-year battle with breast cancer, Gail stood faithfully by her side. After suffering a heart attack himself in 2010 that required bypass surgery, he retired—a decision that allowed him to be present during Carol's second bout with cancer. She passed away in September 2014. Though he never fully recovered from losing his soulmate, Gail found strength in his unshakable faith.

In their later years together, Gail and Carol deepened their spiritual walk through weekly Bible study with close friends—a fellowship that became a cherished part of their lives. After Carol's passing, Gail continued to serve others through prison ministry at his church. He spent countless hours preparing sermons with one goal: to share the message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Gail will be remembered for many things—his hearty laugh, his resilience in the face of adversity, his boundless generosity—but above all for his unwavering love for God and family. His legacy lives on through his two children, five grandchildren, and many dear friends who were touched by his kindness and conviction.
