Gary Lawrence Koehmstedt, 83, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026. Born on April 30, 1942, in Langdon, North Dakota, Gary was the son of the late Lawrence and Irene Koehmstedt.
Gary shared a remarkable life with his beloved wife, Shirley Koehmstedt. Together, they celebrated 49 years of marriage filled with love and devotion. Beneath his tough exterior was a kind-hearted man who cherished his family deeply. He was a proud father to Erika Wagner (Justin), Jennifer Dawes (Bill), Brian Koehmstedt, Nicole Koehmstedt, and Erin Sullivan. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Alyssa Wagner, Trenton Wagner, Cameryn Wagner, Sofie Dawes, Lydia Dawes, Molly Sullivan, Lee Sullivan, and Jesse Sullivan.
Gary had a passion for life that shone through in his hobbies and interests. He loved playing pinochle with friends and family and had an impressive collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia that reflected his appreciation for nostalgia. A true car enthusiast, Gary found joy in restoring and working on vintage Mustang cars—a pastime that combined his mechanical skills with his love for classic automobiles. He also enjoyed antique and garage sale shopping, always on the lookout for unique treasures.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Irene Koehmstedt; as well as his sisters Patricia Koehmstedt and Wanda Beck. Though their loss was deeply felt during his lifetime, Gary carried their memory with him always.
Those who knew Gary will remember him as a man of strength and warmth—a big teddy bear at heart who left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May Gary's life serve as a reminder of the importance of family, passion, and love. The family will be hosting a potluck Celebration of Life on April 19, 2026, from 04:00 PM to 07:00 PM at Meridian Senior Center 1920 N Records Way, Meridian, ID 83646.
The family requests in-leiu of flowers that a donation can be made to the Meridian Senior Center in Gary's honor.
