Gary Lee Winters, 77, of Lenexa KS, passed away on Monday, April 13, at Advent Hospital in Shawnee KS after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Gary was born on September 3, 1948, in West Allis, WI to the late Harold and Lorraine Winters. Gary graduated from Whitnall High School in Hales Corners, WI in 1966 and received a Bachelors Degree in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1970. Upon graduation, he was drafted in to the Army and served in Vietnam. Upon his return to Wisconsin, Gary married Judith Ann Wiedmeyer on July 29, 1972. (They met first semester freshman year of college) They settled in the Milwaukee area where he worked for Boston Store. Most of his working years was spent in sales.
In 1981 due to a job change, Gary and Judie moved to Manchester MO where they raised their daughters, Erika and Kristin. They lived there over 30 years before moving to Lenexa to be near grandchildren. When living in Manchester MO, Gary was an active member of the Ballwin VFW.
Gary loved to be with his grandchildren, cheer on the Green Bay Packers (while drinking a Spotted Cow Beer) was an avid reader and enjoyed coin collecting. He also had a collection of special rocks and minerals gathered over many years.
Gary is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Judie; their daughters, Erika (Christopher Downey) and Kristin (Kevin Mut); and their grandchildren - Jonathan, Connor and Cameron Downey and Creighton and Evelyn Mut. He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Jerry Armstrong), his step-mother Nancy Winters, his brother-in-law Warren Wiedmeyer (Pam) 3 nieces (Debbie, Carin and Jenna) and 2 nephews (Chris and Jared) and wonderful friends and neighbors.
In keeping with his wishes, Gary was cremated, and his ashes will be scattered in his favorite Wisconsin spot.
