On December 20, 2025, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, Geoffrey Scott Bernardi passed away at the age of 37 in Clovis, California. Geoff was born on January 7, 1988 in Fresno, California. He lived and worked in Fresno and Clovis, California.
Geoff was a family man. More than any of the kids, Geoff loved big family gatherings, with everyone shouting over each other to be heard. We're a big family with lots of drama and fights, but in the end, we always have each other's backs. We had been fighting lately and had not had those easy family get-togethers. It breaks my heart - Geoff above everyone loved those moments most. Life is short. You think there will always be time. There isn't.
Geoff was a contradiction. He was passionate. He was stubborn and hard-headed. He loved to argue, and would argue over anything from politics to how to tie your shoelaces. He was a lot like my father. He had a love of history and politics, and was a sports fanatic. He could rattle off random sports stats, talk current events or argue politics with anyone.
He was a mountain man from an early age, going on his first camping trip before he could walk. He loved spending time at Shaver with the family, and spent lots of time helping Erin with projects around her Shaver Lake home. He loved his mom and was fiercely loyal and protective of her. He loved animals, especially cats. He was a cat man.
He was a stagehand and a sound man. He had a love of theater, music and the arts. He worked for years honing his craft in the IATSE Local 158 with his union brothers. In recent years, he had found his home and a career doing what he loved with Clovis Unified School District, working as an AV Design Tech, helping run the theater for Clovis Unified productions. He was growing in a job he loved, working with people he loved. He was happy and thriving.
Geoff faced challenges with his father, but had two incredible men who were there for him always. They guided, mentored and loved Geoff, stepping up in ways that would help form the man he would become. We are forever grateful to Larry and Carnot for the unconditional love and support they showed Geoff throughout his life. There are no words. Blood does not make family.
He was a son. He was a brother. He was a nephew. He was a cousin. He was a friend. He was an uncle with nieces he adored. I think more than anything, he loved being an uncle. A former Bullard Volleyball player, he was thrilled to mentor his niece, Morgan in volleyball at Clovis High. He was loved.
He was our hard-headed, hot-tempered Italian boy. He fought hard and loved hard. He was our beautiful, frustrating, funny, smart, sensitive, infuriating, passionate, pig-headed, loving, caring, complicated boy and we are completely rocked to the core by this loss. He was a beautiful contradiction and we will miss him forever. Family gatherings will never be the same.
We said our final goodbyes to Geoff in an Honor Walk at Community Regional Medical Center with family, friends, CRMC medical staff and the team from Donor Network West. Geoff's final act as an organ donor helped save seven lives and impacted countless others through tissue donation.
Geoff is survived by his mother, Erin Adams, father, Wayne Bernardi, stepfather, Larry Nielson, sister and brother-in-law Megan Pease and Matthew Johnson, brother and sister-in-law Jordan and Kayla Nielson, stepbrother Adam Nielson, and nieces, Morgan and Mara Johnson, and Adri Nielson.
Please join us for a celebration of Geoff's life on January 30th at 12:00pm at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Hall. Geoff's favorite lunch will be served immediately following. The service will be informal. The family asks that you honor Geoff by wearing a T-shirt, sports jersey or something that reminds you of Geoff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The James Rowland Crime Victim Assistance Center and Donor Network West.
