George Daniel Avalos, 86, passed away on March 19, 2026, in San Diego, CA. Born on February 21, 1940, George was known for his vibrant personality and being the life of the party. His humorous nature brought joy to all who knew him.
George served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960, a period of his life he was immensely proud of. Following his military service, he dedicated 25 years to the San Diego City Fire Department, retiring as a respected fire chief. His commitment to public service was a testament to his character.
He pursued his education in San Diego, attending 18th St Elementary School, Sweetwater High, and earning a Master's Degree from San Diego State University (SDSU). George's passion for learning was evident throughout his life.
Apart from his professional and military achievements, George was a devoted family man. He is survived by his daughters, Andrea Cebrero and Erin Taylor; six grandchildren, Alexis, Erik, Isabella, Elise, Zach, and Helena; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Craig Daniel Avalos.
George had a rich social life, marked by his love for dancing. He was a regular at local dances every weekend and an active member of the American Legion Post 255 in National City. His love for his grandchildren was unparalleled, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Visitation for George will be held on April 9, 2026, from 5-9 pm at
Aztlan Mortuary, 7856 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942.
His burial will take place on April 10, from 10:45-11:45 am at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA 92122.
In lieu of other forms of condolences, flowers may be sent to Aztlan Mortuary as a tribute to George's vibrant life. His legacy of laughter, service, and love will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind.
