George Richard Bareham

George Richard Bareham, “Dick”, 77, of Cumberland, Rhode Island passed away on Monday, January 12th. Dick was born in Rochester, New York on July 13th, 1948, to the late Richard M. Bareham and Louise Buehler.

He graduated from Churchville-Chili High School ‘66 as class president and as a promising young athlete, a quality that was underscored during his time playing Minor League baseball for a Class AA team in Rochester, NY. He continued on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history from Hobart, pledged to Sigma Chi, and was recognized as an all-time letter winner for Hobart’s soccer team, the “Statesmen”. Throughout his professional career, Dick made a point to shed light on his colleagues' strengths, and he valued building relationships through common ground. He worked as an account manager for 30 years with AT&T and Verizon before transitioning to a part-time role with AAA as a membership account operator.

Fishing became the sport that Dick treasured most, as it wove together his favorite elements in life: animals in nature, refining his skills, and the opportunity to hear old stories or create new ones with the people he loved over a shared beer. He is leaving behind his three children: son Schuyler and his wife Mel Barewald, son Zach and his wife Bridget Kenahan, and daughter Alannah Bareham. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Kennedy and Killian Bareham, as well as his significant other, Barbara of Attleboro, Massachusetts. Dick is preceded in death by his younger brother Barry Bareham and his older sister Nancy Mesolella.

He will be remembered for his empathy toward both sides of the coin in a disagreement, and for his ability to develop an immediate affinity with people newly introduced to him. He will continue to be deeply loved, thought of, and missed.

To honor him and his stories, there will be a celebration of life in a private room on Sunday, January 18th from 11:00AM-1:00PM at the Audubon Society of Rhode Island in Bristol, RI (1401 Hope St, Bristol, RI, 02809).
