George Bennett of Green, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on January 31st, 2026, leaving behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Beverly (Bev), along with a large extended family whom he loved dearly.

George was born one of six children in Cambridge, Ohio on July 4th, 1937 to Benjamin and Faye Bennett. Throughout his childhood, George developed a curious nature that often led to memorable experiences and plenty of mischief. He was never short on creative ideas, or scapegoats to take the fall.

After graduating from Canton Lincoln High School in 1955, George took a position at The Timken Company. During this time, he met Bev at church, a meeting that would shape the course of his life. The two married in Canton, Ohio on March 6th, 1959.

Bev encouraged him to pursue a degree in education at Kent State University, which led to a lifelong love of learning and teaching. After graduation, George spent 30 years teaching Industrial Arts and Mechanical Drawing. Outside of the classroom, George worked on the coaching staff for the Green Bulldogs football program.

Over the years, George and Bev poured their love into their nieces, nephews, and extended family, treating each one as their own. George lived by the principle that "blood comes first," and he backed up those words through countless acts of generosity and support for family and his community.

The couple also spent decades serving their church, where George taught Sunday school for many years, sharing his faith with young people and helping to guide their walk with God. Whether it was a neighbor who needed help or a family member facing hard times, George and Bev showed up, always putting others before themselves.

George had a voracious appetite for history and loved the outdoors. In their later years, he and Bev traveled the world together, with George's deep knowledge of history transforming every trip into an immersive experience. The two found peace in nature, whether biking, exploring, or simply being outside.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Faye Bennett, and siblings William Bennett, Robert Bennett, and Ruth Aukerman. He is survived by his wife Beverly, siblings Karen Lebano and Marlene Miller, and the many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will carry forward his legacy of putting family first.

George made an immeasurable impact on everyone he met. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share your memories of George at https://www.mykeeper.com/GeorgeABennett
