George Winthrop Bragdon, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, surrounded by family at his home in Bloomfield, Connecticut. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Helen (Cwach) Bragdon.

Born on August 15, 1933 in Hartford to the late George and Elizabeth (Fagan) Bragdon, he grew up with his brother Fred in Wethersfield.

A graduate of Wethersfield High School in 1951, George went on to earn a degree in agriculture from the University of Connecticut in 1955. His early career reflected his passion for the land - he owned and operated Oneonta Farm in Scotland, Connecticut. His commitment to his community extended beyond agriculture and from 1961 to 1966, he served as a state representative from Scotland, advocating for the needs of his constituents with integrity and purpose.

After living in Iowa for a short time, George returned to Connecticut in 1968 and transitioned into construction and facilities management when he became Plant Engineer at the Copaco Shopping Center. There, he oversaw significant expansion and construction projects for the store and plaza. After sixteen years at Copaco, he continued to apply his expertise through various construction management positions before founding his own company, City Point, LLC. In this role, he completed a variety of home improvements for his clients, most notably hardwood floor installations. In his spare time, George took on a number of renovations in his home and assisted friends and family with their own.

George's life was defined not only by professional accomplishments but also by his enduring connection to nature and adventure. An avid outdoorsman throughout his life, he was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America and played a key role in the establishment of the CT chapter of the Green Mountain Club. Whether hiking forest trails or camping under open skies, he found joy and peace in nature.

His love for the water was equally profound. A seasoned sailor, George spent countless hours navigating Long Island Sound and exploring the east coast from Maine to the Chesapeake. He held a mooring on Nantucket for many years - a cherished place where he enjoyed sailing, swimming, fishing, clamming, and sharing Nantucket's charm with family and friends. Among his most treasured memories was a remarkable voyage in 1980 when he sailed his 30-foot sailboat from Mystic to Bermuda - a testament to both his adventurous spirit and nautical skill.

George always had a kind word and showed great interest in others, consistently asking "How are things in your world?" regardless of his circumstances or illness. He would drop everything to help someone simply because he felt it was the right thing to do.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, George Bragdon III (Margarita), Jean Cyr (Jeffrey), Susan Bragdon, and Todd Bragdon (Valerie); his stepchildren, Jeffrey Walden and Gwyn Muscillo (John); his 10 grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; his brother, Frederick and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son Norman and his first wife Joan.

The family would like to thank George's long-time physician Dr. Herbert Keating of Bloomfield for his many years of care and concern; and also the doctors and nurses at the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at UConn Health in Farmington.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, with a service to begin at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Mountain Avenue in Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in George's memory to the Bloomfield Volunteer Ambulance Fund or a charity of your choice.
