On March 18, 2026, George Joseph Buschman Jr., 80, beloved husband married 49 years to his late wife Becky Buschman, passed away at home peacefully in his sleep. George was a devoted father of Brian Buschman and his wife, Nora; Aimee Buschman Orbin and her husband, Jeff; a devoted grandfather of Conor Buschman and his wife, Emily; Kyle Buschman and his fiancé, Abby "Double A"; Caroline Orbin; and Lauren Orbin. In addition to the aforementioned family, George is survived by his brother, Richard Buschman and his wife MaryClaire, and his sisters, Mary Jeanne Buschman, and Dorothy Buschman Watkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca "Becky", and sister, Sister Betty.
George was born on February 7, 1946. He grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School and University of Baltimore then proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with C&P Telephone Company (later known as Verizon), where he met the love of his life, Becky. George truly loved his work with the phone company, spending 38 years there before retiring. During his final decade, he served as the sole phone technician at BWI Airport, where he became well known to employees across the airlines and car rental agencies; no surprise to anyone who knew how naturally social he was. Never one to slow down, George continued working for another 10 years as a consultant with GS Tech, generously sharing his knowledge and experience with colleagues and friends.
George was a devoted father and grandfather whose greatest joy was his family. For years, he coached his children's sports team with the Greater Glen Burnie sports league (GGB), where he made countless memories alongside family and friends. He adored his grandchildren and spoke about them with pride at every opportunity. He especially loved being called "Pop," a name he wore with great pride — a title so fitting that even his grandchildren's friends came to know and call him Pop as well. Every phone call with George included loving questions about his grandchildren and a desire to hear all about their adventures.
He and Becky treasured their annual family trips to Ocean City, a tradition that reflected their love for the beach and time spent together. That love eventually inspired them to buy their own "Beach House" and move full time to Delaware. They embraced beach life wholeheartedly, enjoying sunny days at the ocean and building many close friendships at neighborhood pool gatherings and happy hours. You could often find George sitting in his garage watching the Orioles or Ravens, or riding his bike through the neighborhood, happily stopping to talk with everyone he encountered.
George was deeply committed to serving his community. He was active in his church, St. Mathews by the Sea, volunteered at the Good Samaritan Thrift Shop, where he was affectionately known as "Big George," and was an active member of the Ocean City Elks, volunteering as treasurer during Bingo nights.
George will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and the genuine care he showed to family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the community he helped build.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
