George Albert Clapp, Jr., born January 11, 1944, in Chicago, IL, to Nora Stone Bryant and George Albert Clapp, Sr., passed away peacefully of cardiac arrest on January 13, 2026, at Baptist Beaches Hospital.

George spent most of his life in Jacksonville Beach, FL. He graduated from Duncan U. Fletcher Senior High School, Class of 1962, where he ran cross country and competed in track and field, setting a Florida state record. He served five years in the United States Marine Corps and was proud to have graduated from Parris Island.

A direct descendant of Thomas Stone, signer of the Declaration of Independence, his family received a land grant in Blountstown in the 1800s. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 129.

George helped cut nature trails at UNF and later worked eight years as a respiratory therapist at Memorial Hospital. He also brought joy to many as an actor in community theater, films, industrials, and the Alhambra Dinner Theatre, and performed at the Royal Canadian Theatre in Toronto. One friend called him “the best comedic actor I’ve ever seen.”

He survived two aortic valve replacements and enjoyed his friends and neighbors until two days after his 82nd birthday. George was intelligent, kind, and loved by all who met him.

He is survived by his partner of 30 years, Linda M. Fisher; his former wife, Barbara Hill; a niece and nephew; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, animal humane societies, or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 12, at 1 p.m. at oceanfront Shelter 3, Lot 8, Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, Atlantic Beach, FL. For details, text 904-241-3903.

“Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
