George Earnest "Jammin George" Bond Jr., 70, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away on December 16, 2025. Born on November 22, 1955, in Richmond, Virginia, George lived a life marked by faith, music, and service to others.
George began his professional journey as a pressman at Data of Old Forms, where he worked until 1989. That year marked a turning point in his life when he followed his passion for music and formed the band Cross Stars. The group found great success and later evolved into Kick Off the Covers, continuing to share George’s musical gifts with audiences far and wide. His music was more than entertainmentit was an expression of his deep faith and love for people.
A devoted man of God, George dedicated much of his life to ministry. In his younger years, he took on leadership roles and taught at various churches. He also participated in prison ministry, bringing hope and spiritual guidance to those in need. He served faithfully as a Deacon and teacher at Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church, where he touched many lives through his teachings and example.
George’s commitment to service extended beyond the church walls. He was commander of the Sons of the Legion at Verano Post 233 and a proud Mason at Washington Henry Lodge. These roles reflected his dedication to community and country.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Ellen Renée Bond; his children George and Annette Bond; Jeniffer and Frankie Fiorello; Elliott J. Bond; Jarrett H. Bond; Shanna (Grannis) and Jamie Lynch; Robert A Grannis and Lauren; Michael and Christina Leidy; and Jeniffer Leidy. George was blessed with 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, George E. Bond Sr. and Evelyn Poindexter Bond.
George was known for sharing the love of Jesus with everyone he met. His faith was unwavering, and he believed that music was a divine gift meant to uplift others. He had a heart for all people—always ready to lend a hand or offer encouragement.
One of George’s favorite movies was *It’s a Wonderful Life*. The first time he watched it, he cried because he felt alone. But on his most recent birthday, surrounded by friends who came to celebrate him, he cried again—this time overwhelmed by the realization of how deeply loved he truly was.
May the memory of George Earnest "Jammin George" Bond Jr.—his music, faith, kindness, and enduring spirit—bring comfort to all who knew him. A Prayer Service will be held on January 12, 2025, at 04:00 PM at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church 7356 Atlee Road.
