George N. Lyons

George Nicholas Lyons, age 76, of Quincy, died peacefully, Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

George was born in Quincy, to the late Kathleen (LaCour) and James Lyons. Raised and educated there, he was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1968. George married his now late wife, Ellen P. (O'Neil) Lyons of Quincy, and lived happily for many years in the small quaint suburb of Houghs Neck in Quincy.

George served in the Air Force from 1968-1972 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. After his discharge, George owned a glass installation business, and then spent the remainder of his career as a Federal Protective Service Police Officer with the Department of Homeland Security in the City of Boston until his retirement. He spent his career working to protect the citizens of Boston and the United States during notable events such as 9/11, the Boston Marathon Bombing, Hurricane Katrina, and many others.

Most of all, George was devoted to his family, and his cherished son, supporting all his many activities and accomplishments.

Devoted father of Jared N. Lyons and his wife Rebecca of Plainville, Connecticut.

Dear brother of James Lyons and his wife Sharon of Texas, Clarence Lyons and his wife Jackie of Florida, Sharron Milkowski and her husband Gary of Marlborough, Michael Lyons and his wife Jane of Hull, Michelle Reidy and her husband Dan of Carver, and the late Charlene M. (Lyons) Quigg.

George is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Friday, January 23, from 4 - 7 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
