George A. Vandeman was born in Muncie, Indiana, on January 16, 1940, to George and Nellie Vandeman. He passed away peacefully at home in Los Angeles on March 16, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 83.

George lived a full and generous life, defined not only by professional excellence but, far more importantly, by deep devotion to his family and friends. Those closest to him knew him as an optimist, a problem-solver, and a man whose enthusiasm for life was contagious. His greatest pride and joy was his family, and he was, by all accounts, the most dedicated and enthusiastic grandpa imaginable.

George earned his law degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, beginning a legal career that would span decades and reflect his creativity, leadership, and deep commitment to those he served. An attorney throughout his career, he spent nearly three decades at Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles, where he was widely respected for his vision, leadership, and mentorship. While his professional accomplishments were significant, George never defined himself by titles or accolades; he measured success by relationships, loyalty, and the lives he touched.

George is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; three children; two stepchildren; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, along with extended family and a wide circle of friends who cherished him. He was known for his generosity, warmth, booming laugh, and unwavering belief in people — often seeing possibilities where others saw limits.

George's legacy lives on through the family he adored and the many lives he enriched through friendship, mentorship, and love. As he once chose for himself, "Go Rest High on That Mountain," dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. You are forever in our hearts.
