George Lawrence Wilbur

1938 - 2026

George Lawrence Wilbur passed from this world on March 19th, 2026 from pneumonia with complications. He was born to Amy Fayette Small and Willis Carl Wilbur on the 29th of October, 1938, and is predeceased by all of his siblings: Gertrude D. Wilbur, Willis Wendall Wilbur, Lorenzo Carlton Wilbur, Edward Raymond Wilbur, and Nancy A. Wilbur.

George was always a hard worker and inquisitive, and found great joy in taking things apart to understand how they worked. His aptitude and ingenuity served him well for many years as a truck mechanic. He found happiness in all of his jobs, from his time at the U.S. Post Office, to the Yarmouth Transfer Station, to his many years at Eastland Shoe.

Though he faced many challenges in his life, George always has a smile for everyone he met. Being deaf did not stop his gift of gab, and he made friends everywhere he went. His greatest joy came from the people of his life, and he will be missed by everyone who got to be a part of that happiness.

He is survived by his three sons, Tim Wilbur, Tom Wilbur, and James Wilbur. The family is having a private service to mourn his passing, and his final resting place will be at Burr Cemetery in Freeport, next to his brothers and mother. Let all take comfort in the peace he has found.
