Georgia Ruth (Bauer) Adams, 89, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 7, 2026 with her husband by her side, holding her hand after a long and blessed life.
Georgia was born May 8, 1936 in Auburn, Nebraska to George & Ruth (Herbster) Bauer. She grew up on the family farm near Verdon, Nebraska and graduated from Falls City High School in 1953. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Peru State College in 1956. While at Peru State College she was awarded the title of Mayfate Queen and was part of the homecoming court in 1955. It was at Peru State College where she met the love of her life, Bert Adams. They were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Verdon, Nebraska in 1956. Together they raised two boys, Tim and Mark.
The family lived in South Sioux City, NE, Anita, IA, and Grinnell, IA, until finally landing in Des Moines, IA in 1967. Georgia followed her passion for teaching in each place they lived touching the lives of countless children in her classrooms. In Des Moines, Georgia taught at multiple elementary buildings in the Des Moines Public School district including Nash, Moore, Oak Park, Rice, and Holy Trinity. She earned her Masters in Education from Drake University in 1972. After retiring from Des Moines Public Schools, Georgia and Bert moved to Bella Vista, AR and then to Ocala, FL, before coming home to Nebraska in 2022. In retirement, Georgia enjoyed traveling, especially Royal Caribbean cruises, singing in church choirs, serving in the church quilting group at Joy Lutheran Church in Ocala, FL (even though she wasn't a sewer, she got very good at cutting out quilt blocks), going to the casino, and playing pinochle with Bert keeping tallies of who had won the most times - it was almost always her!
Survivors include her husband, Bert Adams, son Timothy (Diana) Adams, grandchildren Valerie Adams, Nathan Adams, and Ben (Katie) Adams, son Mark (Jill) Adams, grandchildren Chelsea Adams, Jarred (Holly) Adams, great-grandson Malachi, sisters Beverly Bernhardt and Marjorie Burt, and many other relatives and friends.
