Gerald Paul Scott

1948 - 2026

Gerald Paul Scott of Renton, Washington passed away on February 14, 2025, following a brief stay at Overlake Hospital. He was 77 years old. Gerry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and encouragement.

Gerry was born in Seattle, Washington in 1948 to Vernett and Paul Scott. He grew up in Federal Way, where he developed the independent spirit, strong work ethic, and practical skills that would define his life. From an early age, Gerry was friendly, outgoing, and quick to lend a hand. These traits remained hallmarks of his character.

Throughout his life, Gerry pursued his interests with enthusiasm and curiosity. He loved fishing, water skiing, golfing, cooking, drawing, and photography. Whether casting a line at his favorite fishing spot, cooking for family and friends, or capturing a scene of sun lit petunias through his camera lens, he found joy in both creativity and the outdoors. He especially cherished the annual fishing trips to Sun Lakes, traditions that created lasting memories for his family.

Entrepreneurial by nature, Gerry spent most of his career working for himself. He founded and operated several businesses, including Gerry’s Fresh and GPS Cutlery. He took pride in building something of his own and valued the relationships he formed along the way. For Gerry, business was never just about transactions — it was about people.

Above all, Gerry was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was generous with his time and knowledge, often including (or requiring) his children to join him on home improvement projects. “Take Your Kid to Work Day” was very common during summer holidays and it meant an early morning start and spending the day delivering produce to places like Maple Valley. For his kids he was a baseball coach, golf coach, cooking coach, and above all, a life coach. He encouraged resilience, curiosity, self-reliance, and leading by example.

Gerry was always a cheerleader for his children and then his grandchildren. In later years, he found a mission in encouraging young kids to draw. He bought drawing books and traded sketches with his granddaughters. If he learned someone had children, a drawing book would soon arrive at their door. He believed deeply in nurturing creativity and confidence, and he never missed an opportunity to offer a few words of sincere encouragement.

Gerry is survived by his beloved wife, Debora; his three sons, Garrick, Greg, and Geoff; his daughter-in-law, Clodagh; his granddaughters, Hannah and Hazel; and his cousin Carol and her son, Eric.

Gerry will be remembered for his generous heart, his entrepreneurial spirit, his steady guidance, and the quiet ways he uplifted others. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the traditions he created, and the confidence he inspired in those fortunate enough to know him. He will be profoundly missed.
