Geraldine's Journey
On September 21, 1939, in Mississippi, a beautiful life began. Geraldine was born the sixth child of twelve children to the proud parents of W. C. and Melissa Scott. Raised in a close-knit and loving family, she learned early the values of faith, perseverance, and devotion to family.
In 1957, as a teenager, she relocated with her family to Gary, Indiana, where she built a life centered on hard work, faith, and service. She was employed at William Townhouse in Gary, Indiana, and later worked faithfully at All-In One Rentals, where she retired after more than 40 years of dedicated service.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and committed her life to the Lord. Her faith journey led her to worship faithfully at Open Door Church of God in Christ under the late Elder M. C. Bennett, at House of Glory in East Chicago under Pastor Willie Nelson, and at Temple of Deliverance under the late Pastor Lorenzo Bonds and current Pastor Brian Bonds. She remained a devoted member of the Mother Board until her passing.
In 1959, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Walter Lee Taylor Sr., and together they raised a loving, devoted family built on faith, respect, and strong values.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, 8 Siblings, her Beloved Husband, and 1 son, Walter Taylor, Jr. (Bodie)
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Michael Scott Sr. of Antica, CA., Betty (Rick) Spencer of Schererville, IN, Jeffrey Taylor of Bakersfield, CA., and Geraldine (Emmanuel III) Ford of Gary, IN. 8 grandchildren, Michael Scott, Jr., Tara & Jada Scott, Richard & Rolando Spencer, RaShonda Spencer-Cage. 6 great grandchildren, RiChard Spencer Jr., Alexis & Rhianna Spencer, RaiLynn & RiKayla Cage & RaShawn Spencer-Cage. She was affectionately known as Grandma Dean to 4 bonus grandchildren, Carlos Soto, Marcus Hurt Jr, Emmanuel Tisdale Ford IV, Jocelyn & Charles (Buster) Hurt IV
She is also survived by her brother, Rev. Johnny Paul (Yvonne) Scott of Jackson, Tennessee; her sisters, Naomi (James) Davis of Mantica, Calif., and Tommie (William) Thomas of Miller, IN.; her brothers-in-law, Willie James Taylor and Lorenzo Lee; her sisters-in-law, Emma (Edward) Johnson, Christine Moore & Ora Bell Lee; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She found joy in the simple things in life and was happiest when surrounded by her family. Spending time with loved ones brought her the greatest happiness. She enjoyed watching wrestling and had a true passion for shopping. Known affectionately as the "Church fashionista," she was always beautifully dressed from head to toe and often received compliments.
She never met a stranger and greeted everyone with kindness, warmth, and genuine love. Her smile, gentle spirit, and caring heart left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
On February 3, 2026, she peacefully transitioned from this life to Eternal life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, love, and service. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on through the lives she touched and the family she cherished.
