Gilbert Perry Silva, lovingly known as "Gil," passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Modesto, California, at the age of 88. Born on October 7, 1937, in Santa Cruz, California, Gilbert lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, his craft, and his community.
Gilbert spent his professional life as a general contractor and home remodeler. Known affectionately as the neighborhood "tool man," he was always ready to lend a hand or share advice on home repairs. His expertise and generosity left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
In San Jose, Gilbert met the love of his life, Nancy. The couple married on October 12, 1963, at the chapel of Wayfarer in Carmel. Together they built a life filled with adventure and joy. They purchased their first home in Campbell, where they lived for six years while enjoying camping trips, Jeep club outings, and snowmobiling adventures. Their shared love for the outdoors created cherished memories that they carried with them throughout their lives.
The Silvas later moved to Kenpark Court in San Jose, where they formed lifelong friendships with their neighbors. The close-knit community often gathered for parties and celebrations that sometimes spilled into the street as the court came alive with laughter and camaraderie. These moments became treasured memories for both adults and children alike.
In 1999, Gilbert and Nancy relocated to Sun City in Roseville. There they embraced new friendships while maintaining bonds with old friends from Kenpark Court. Even in retirement, Gilbert continued to be a pillar of support for his family and friends. Whether it was lending tools or offering guidance on home projects, he remained the go-to person for practical advice and assistance.
Gilbert is survived by his daughter Stacey Gavis of Kuna, Idaho; his son Scott Silva of Morgan Hill; and his beloved grandchildren Michael Gavis, Melissa Gavis, Nicholas Silva, Kaitlyn Silva, and Addison Silva. He was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Nancy Silva, who passed away in 2024; as well as his sister Judy Melcher, who also passed away in 2024.
Gilbert's legacy is one of kindness, skillful craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to those he cared about. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity and expertise.
May Gilbert's memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
